Upwards of 40 percent of high school students are chronically disengaged from school, according to a 2003 National Research Council report on motivation."
I remember once doing a smeinar on the suicidal tendency of the university students. These all are somehow connected to motivation. Students may lack motivation due to poorly designed curriculum, reward and punishment system, grading systems and many more. Forbes has done a comprehensive study on this. You may find the full report here: www.forbes.com/sites/jamesmarshallcrotty/2013/03/13/mot... Learning style: Things we need to know
The following resources are really useful to understand the learning style of students. Once we get this it would be easier to tailor the lesson plan. Thanks to all my colleagues who have taken all the trouble to contribute these resources. Enjoy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiUrI_kbTfs Questioning techniquesAsking question..sounds simple. Yes it is when our intention is either to embarrass the opponent or to show-off our own knowledge on an issue. But if we think about asking questions that will promote critical thinking among others we have lots of issues to consider, millions of things to learn. So let's learn something about questioning techniques.
To begin with, here's a websites suggested by my friends from my PIDP 3250 course. http://www.fno.org/nov97/toolkit.html Have you heard of Socratic questioning style? No? Socratic Questioning was named after Socrates (ca. 470-399 B. C.), the Greek Philosopher/teacher. The Socratic approach is based on the practice of disciplined, rigorously thoughtful dialogue (according to these articles) between teachers and students. The idea is to uncover the truth and assumptions, to analyze concepts and distinguish from what we know from what we don't know and to follow out the logical implications of thought. Explore this style here: http:www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_questioning http://www.serc.carleton.edu/introgeo/socratic/second.html http://www.changingminds.org/techniques/questioning/scoractic_questions.htm Here is an article giving 15 effective questioning techniques. Please read them. http://www.phy.ilstu.edu/pte/311content/questioning/techniques.thml Here is some other ways to look at the thing. Few more questioning strategies: http://www.engageny.org/sites/default/files/resource/attachment/questioning-strategies-to-engage-all-learners.doc-EngageNY The role of motivation in learningWell, of course, who can deny the role of motivation in education? it is required by both end-educators and the learners. I interacted in a discussion forum on this issue while doing my PIDP 3520 course. Here are some websites that were shared by some of my colleagues and friends. How wonderful reading these are!
Thanks to my friend, Sharon Dowling who shared this website with us. http://learni.st/learnings/51349-student-motivations-and-attitudes?board_id=5675 Veerpal, my another friend from the forum, explored the following website and shared with us. It kicked off an excellent point: how can we motivate each other. I enjoyed reading this and am sure you will also love it. http://www.educationworld.com/a_admin/admin/admin289.shtml I found this poster really thought-provoking. It was presented by University of Michigan in 2013 Learning Network Conference . Let me share this here: http://mspmap.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/LNC2013_poster.pdf Wow!! This website is simply a part of solomon's treasures for those who are thinking seriously about motivation in education. The articles are dynamic, brilliantly researched and superbly written. http://www.motivationsig.net/resources.html Here are some great links shared by my colleagues about pedagogic motivation. Great resources!!

Humor: Breaking the ice
I have always appreciated the role of humor in the field of learning. As a student, I found those teachers comfortable to interact with who had a great sense of humor. I always try to make my students comfortable too. This website really added value to my knowledge and implications of humors in class. Thanks to my Instructor Dough and my friend Cheryl for sharing this amazing website. Enjoy…..
