Watch my digital presentation entitled as "Role-plays: Playing big"As a teacher I wonder how many times I encountered with situations where my students extended disengaging behavior. Mind you, I teach Business that has no business with matching exercises or fill in the blanks. For some topics, these boosters have very little or no impact on the learners. Then I read an article on role-play and I was like "Hey! That's sound euphoric. I am sure they will love this". And role-play was commenced immediately. The experience surpassed my expectations. Since then I enlisted role-play as one of my most favorite instructional methods.
When I got an assignment as a PIDP student of creating a video on an effective instructional strategy I immediately jumped up and opted for role-play. The video talks about how I play this strategy in my class and how it brings greater learning experience for the students. On the way I have parked on the issues of the contexts where role-play works best, some practices that can create best result from using it. Also, I have drawn a line under my preference on role-play by highlighting some of it's limitations. Here's the link of the video. Hope you enjoy it bit by bit. By the way, you may need updated Java application to see the video. :) http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cI1VVoVU9m Instructional Strategies: Blessed ideas!Wonderful resources here! Thanks to all my friends who have created and shared these invaluable presentations on different brilliant instructional strategies.
Instructional strategy: Stations Excellent idea to engage the students when lectures are really tedious. Watch and explore the idea! Thanks to Sharon, my friend from PIDP 3250! http://youtu.be/8JV7v7_bhUs Courtsy: Sharon Instructional strategy:State a problem A good one for the Business teachers like me. A business might have a situation where multiple solutions can be brainstormed. But we need to hit with the best one. To teach students problem solving and group dynamics on the same platform 'state a problem' can prove to be a champion instructional strategy. Watch the video presentation on 'State a Problem' by one of my colleagues from PIDP. Be inspired. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=oRdocvladFw Video Courtesy: Stacey Fenwick Instructional strategy: Jigsaw I have found this really an interesting one. Though I have some reasonable doubt on its universal applicability jigsaw can bring tremendous results in perfect contexts. Watch this video on Jigsaw and explore it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nITP9Aw-jA4 Video Courtesy: Tim Enders Instructional Strategy:Case Study My favorite! Case studies always provoke a sense of realism in learners. Real life corporate world is full off twisting stories, success and failures, achievements and acquisitions! Full of never-ending suspense. Obviously, our learners have a feel of this suspense when they find themselves on the chair of the CEO or Marketing Director or Financial master minds. Look how it works in a class room from the following video presentation. Feel the zeal!!! http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/14567759/pid-instructional-strategies-video Video Courtesy: Jaspal Ahluwalia |
Asking better questions in classroomOne of the vital conditions for effective learning is to ask strategic question. This is next to lecturing! We often throw questions to our students without any prior thought. That is not a good idea at all. I found this video really informative and thought-provoking. Watch and learn :)
