I was born a couple of years later Bangladesh, my motherland was born! After a legacy of blood Bangladesh was born as an independent country in 1971. I was born in 1974. Bangladesh was recovering from a disaster with her countrymen still paralyzed by the horrific memory of the war. I missed the history and the opportunity to be a part of it. My knowledge on the liberation war is, therefore, purely academic. Thanks to all those people who have kept the spirit of the war alive through decades in the form of books, movies, painting and many others. My inquisitive mind always gets stuck on a plot made that time. A dangerous plot was executed with a brutal intention. A list was made of all intellectual people of Bangladesh. They all were to be murdered!
The thought-provoking part of the plot is that most of those people were teachers. I often asked myself-why? Why the teachers? were they considered to be dangerous? Really?
I got my answers many years later when I myself started my career as a teacher.
A teacher can facilitate greater change in social culture and beliefs by engaging his/her pupils in an enormous process of transformational learning.
A teacher was Muhammad (PBUH) whose influence is accelerating even today after almost sixteen hundred years of his death. A teacher was Socrates who, with a cup of hemlock in his hand, was preaching his lessons to his followers. A teacher was Vidyasagar who stood all alone against prejudices in his own religion. Were not these people dangerous enough to guide the misguided? Should not all the evil minds be scared of them?
Eleven years! That's my age as a teacher. Today when I stand in front of a mirror I see a proud image of a person whose influences is scattered all over the world! Interestingly, I am neither a world leader nor a great film star. Then how it is possible? The face in the mirror smiles and answers: your students!
I dedicate this webpage for all the teachers around the globe sharing my sacred mission of passing down the 'light' of knowledge to the next generation who shall built a beautiful tomorrow.
